This is part of a monthly series in which we get to know Sifties.

Jeff Sakasegawa is a Trust and Safety Architect at Sift and has been with us for one year.

If he could eat one food for the rest of his life, it would be sushi. “I admit my bias as a Japanese-American, but it really is the best food (apologies but no apologies to other cuisines of the world). Great flavors, artistry, and so many unique approaches to it.”

What’s the best concert you’ve been to?

Hard to pick one so I’ll give my best three:

  • Billy Joel at AT&T Park: I had never seen him live before and it was his first time playing in San Francisco in 40 years. He is just an unparalleled talent and awe inspiring in person.
  • Kanye West, Saint Pablo tour: I wasn’t there the night KD was, but Oakland was on one that evening! The artistry of the floating stage with the accompanying light effects was amazing and Ye played his old hits, which was unexpected.
  • Radiohead at Coachella (2004): Incredible performance and setlist from my favorite band.

If you could pick up a certain skill instantly, what would it be?

I’d wish I could be a good cook. Not only would it save me a ton of money in San Francisco, but I could start giving back to my friends and family who have fed me over the years.

Where is your favorite place to be?

By the ocean. I love laying out, soaking up the sun, and smelling the sea air. There’s something to be said about the laid back vibes of beach towns as well – ideally I’d like to retire to one someday.

My family vacations were a lot of putting the kids in the car and driving somewhere, and we went to Pismo Beach a lot. We got to play on the beach and eat clam chowder. There’s a pier at Pismo Beach with a place called Hotshots Billiards; I used to like shooting pool with my dad there if my mom and sister were off somewhere doing something else.

What songs hit you with a wave of nostalgia every time you hear them?

Only in Dreams by Weezer. It is the perfect song and always brings me back to my teenage years.

What was your first job?

I worked at Gap: folding clothes, greeting, stuff like that. I probably gave most of my salary straight back to the Gap corporation with all of the clothes I bought during that summer. It was close to my high school and I always wanted to be at the mall anyway, so I figured that I should get paid for it!

What is/are your favorite animal(s) and why?

Corgis. I’ve never been a dog owner but I am unapologetically obsessed with corgis, and follow more than I care to admit on Instagram. I’m a big fan of Chompers the Corgi, who is also a San Francisco resident.
