Meet Miguel: the Adviser of Account Management

Miguel Veloz leads the Account Management team and has been with Sift Science for just shy of three years. If he could be any animal, it would be a Corgi Shiba Inu mix because thinks they’re ridiculously adorable. Who wouldn’t want to love and spoil one?

What superpower would you want to have and why?

Practically speaking, the ability to learn anything incredibly quickly. I feel like it’s so versatile. Sure, it would be cool to stop time, but who knows what repercussions that may have on the space time continuum. The first thing I would do with that superpower would be to learn every language in the world. I would also finally learn how to play the guitar after 15 years of stopping and starting.

If a movie was made of your life, what genre would it be and who would play you?

I would want it to be a really crazy action movie, extremely high budget, insane effects that make people go “wow” throughout the whole thing. I would want Ewan McGregor to play me. It’s like he can do anything — action, drama, comedy, singing…he’s the full package!

Do you speak another language?

I speak Spanish, Russian, and Mandarin. My family speaks some Spanish at home, and I also took classes. I studied Russian and Mandarin in college, and studied abroad in St Petersburg and Beijing.

What’s interesting about to you about account management?

I love that it’s the perfect blend of skills that I want to be able to use on a daily basis. I get to talk directly to customers, have a deep product knowledge, work on very complex negotiations, understand the product well enough to solve a customer’s problem, and be a great communicator to connect all of the dots to make sure that everyone’s a winner at the end of the day. I can’t think of another role where you get to use all of those skills.

You just took a baking class. What was your favorite item you made?

I love cooking. It’s a fantastic creative expression that’s also delicious. It’s a way that I share love with my friends and family. Baking, on the other hand, has always seemed like a scarier side of that world that required more precision and was more trouble than it was worth.

However, I’ve developed a deep love of The Great British Bake Off  and spent a lot of time talking to Michelle on my team about it. So I took a baking class at San Francisco Cooking School, and my favorite thing that I made was a chocolate chocolate tart. I had never baked a chocolate crust, which is a bit of a challenge because you can’t know from looking at it whether it’s cooked enough. It was a nice challenge with delicious results.
