Our Commitment to Data Privacy

This year, I celebrated my 8th anniversary as co-founder and CEO of Sift. When I started the company, I was already convinced of the awesome power that machine learning (ML) could bring to huge amounts of data. Choosing the name Sift felt natural. Data + ML = actionable insights. Those insights help Sift make the internet a safer place for everyone.
It is important to reiterate the goal we set for ourselves – protect the internet and enable our customers to grow their businesses. And frankly, that requires lots of data.
But using data to generate insights also requires responsible stewardship of that data. Sift has always valued transparency and accountability. We have always operated with the privacy of our customers (and our customers’ customers) in mind. Today, we’re formalizing this with our Commitment to Data Privacy, a reflection of our core values.
What it boils down to is trust. I believe trust has never been more important – our customers should be able to trust us with their data. Everything we do is to ensure that trust isn’t misplaced. I personally take privacy very seriously, as does every Siftie, and we are committed to proactively protecting your privacy to the greatest extent possible.
When it comes to customer data, we promise to:
Use data to fight evil
We will only use your data for the purposes of detecting and preventing fraud and abuse on the internet. We will never sell your data.
Be transparent about the data we use
We clearly spell out what data we collect and how we use it. We believe wholeheartedly in transparency.
Keep your data safe
We employ industry best practices to secure data in transit and at rest. Learn more here.
Comply with privacy regulations
We abide by laws governing the privacy of consumer data. (This goes without saying but we’re saying it anyway.)
These are our promises to you and we are committed to keeping them. I want to make sure this Commitment is clear. If you have any questions, drop us a line at email@example.com.
