Meet Raman: the Connoisseur of Communications

This post is part of a weekly series in which we get to know Sifties.

Raman Deol, our Communications Manager, has been with Sift Science for three months. When she’s not busy handling our media and public relations, you can either find her at Bar Crudo enjoying their raw bar happy hour or eating some confetti cookies from Doughbies.

What are 5 things that make you happy?

1. Friends and family
2. Warm weather
3. Travel
4. Carbs (bread and butter)
5. Tennis (which I played in high school)

Who do you admire the most?

My dad – which may sound cliché – but I could not have been raised by someone who is more gender equal. He had three daughters before he had a son, and he never told us there was something we couldn’t do. He and my mom moved here from India, and even when he was looking for work he never made excuses. He would spend time with us when we got home from school, and he set us up for success in life.

Do you speak another language?

I do speak Punjabi, but not very well. And I can understand Hindi.

What was your first car?

My first car was a silver Chevrolet Lumina, which they don’t make anymore. It had a big dent in it, so we called it Denty. Then in the winter we would call it Denty Ice, like Dentyne Ice.

What’s the best vacation you ever had?

It was a recent trip to India. I went with my family and a bunch of our cousins. It was the first time I had been there since I was in first grade – so it had been 19 years. We went to Punjab, where my parents are from, because they were opening a temple in honor of my grandfather.

It was special because we got to spend time in the houses my mom and dad grew up in. We spent time with all the relatives from our parents’ generation, us (the cousins), and the cousins’ kids.
