This post is part of a weekly series in which we get to know Sifties.
Nate Hall is our Marketing Operations Manager who has been with Sift Science for eight months. If he could be any animal, he would be an octopus because they’re really smart, live in the ocean (which has so much going on, like in the coral reef), and can camouflage and fit into anything.
Where is your favorite place to be?
Up in Lake Tahoe, because there’s so much to do there regardless of the season. I really like the Sierra Nevadas, I love backpacking, and it feels magical to be up by the lake. I also proposed to my now-fiance in Lake Tahoe and we’re getting married there next year!
What skill would you love to learn?
I already cook a lot, but I want to get better at it. I’d like to learn more about different techniques, and I find plating interesting since it really impacts someone’s opinion of a dish. I’m thinking of staging at a restaurant, which is where you go in for a few hours a day (unpaid) and learn how to prepare the food.
What’s your favorite thing that you made?
I made porchetta a few weeks ago. It takes a really long time — I had to start prepping the day before and it took five hours to cook in the oven. We had so much meat that we had the porchetta for three different meals, and I still have half of it in my freezer. I was inspired to make my own porchetta by the food truck RoliRoti that’s near the ferry building. They make a killer porchetta sandwich.
What was your first job?
Do you have a secret talent?
A lot of people don’t know this, but I play the saxophone and took lessons up until a year ago for four years. My mom is really into jazz, so I grew up listening to it and going to jazz camp. It’d be cool to join a band one day.
