5 Reasons We Can’t Wait to Open Our Seattle Office

Big news: after more than five years of operating out of a single office in beautiful downtown San Francisco, Sift Science is branching out. We realized that in order to keep up with our growth needs and continue to build a great team, we’d have to expand geographically.
And where’s the perfect place to achieve these goals? That’s right: Seattle.
Here are five things we’re really excited about:
1. Seattle is awesome.
Both Jason Tan, Sift’s CEO, and I spent many years in Seattle. We honed our engineering chops at Amazon, Zillow, Optify, TeachStreet, and Jambool, seeing some of those companies go from very small to quite large.
San Francisco is an amazing city, and we’re happy to be based here. But we really miss the plethora of fine coffees, outdoorsy culture, and proximity to magnificent mountains and parks that Seattle offers. Soon we’ll have an excuse to visit regularly.
2. More Sift = more great culture.
Now we can have regular inter-office Super Smash Bros. competitions. More basketball. More movie nights. More animal shirt Fridays. And could we maybe try doing a group jigsaw puzzle via video-conference?
3. We’ll be closer to some fellow Fraud Fighters.
We’ve got a crew of amazing customers based out of Seattle, including Remitly and Moz. And we recently hosted the third-ever Fraud Fighters Forum in Seattle. We’ll be able to see our customers and fellow fraud-fighters even more often once we’ve got an official presence there.
4. Seattle engineers and tech are second to none!
It probably goes without saying … but we want to say it anyway. We know so many talented people in Seattle that helped transform the city into one of the most recognized centers for innovation and technology. And now, Sift Science will be joining that esteemed lot by opening an office there.
5. We actually already have a Seattle presence.
Software engineer Zorah Fung (one of the stars of our recent engineering team video) already works remotely from Seattle. In addition to working on the Abuse Products team, she helpfully updates us every time her hometown has sunnier weather than we have in San Francisco (It happens more often than you’d think!).
We’ll be scouting out office space soon. In the meantime, are you interested in joining us for this next chapter in the Pacific Northwest? Check out our open jobs – we’d love to hear from you!
