Introducing New Fraud & Abuse Prevention Products

On the internet, abuse and fraud can take many forms. At Sift Science, it’s our mission to give companies the tools and knowledge to stop abuse and fraud in whatever form it takes. That’s why we’re proud to announce the next big evolution of the Sift Science Platform. Today, we are releasing two new abuse prevention products:
Content Abuse Prevention – Stop spammy and scammy postings from polluting your community. Keep users safe from bad actors.
Promo Abuse Prevention – Stop referral rings and repeated use of promotions. Make sure you’re rewarding only real users.
In addition, we are launching two new and improved versions of our existing products:
Payments Fraud Prevention – Stop chargebacks before they happen and add protection for new payment methods.
Account Abuse Prevention – Stop fake and duplicate accounts from polluting your site. Block bad users before they have a chance to harm your business.
New: Content Abuse Prevention
In working with our customers who operate large communities and marketplaces, we realized that protecting the integrity of the content posted is as critical as payments. No one wants their site inundated with spammy or scammy posts that endanger users and your brand. We’ve built the Content Abuse Prevention product to enable you to detect bad users before they start damaging your community.
Content Abuse Prevention looks at unique attributes of postings including the text, category of post, images, messages between users, user reviews, flagged content, relationships between users, and more to detect potentially bad users. If you’re using Sift Science, you won’t have to put high-friction checkpoints like captchas, phone verification, etc. in place. You can save that for users you’re unsure of. This way, your best users are given a great experience and protected from bad actors.
New: Promo Abuse Prevention
As part of growing your business, promotions are a great way to attract new users to your service. The risk is that bad users will take advantage and repeatedly use them. We built the Promo Abuse Prevention product to enable you to detect rings of users who repeatedly use promos and take more than their fair share.
Promo Abuse Prevention looks at unique attributes of promos including promo value, type of promotion, who referred the user, how many referrals, user behavior after redemption, and more to detect potentially bad users. If you’re using Sift Science, you can ensure that you’re rewarding real users and blocking anybody trying to game your service.
Fighting Multiple Types of Fraud At Once
We know that most companies face multiple types of fraud and abuse at one time. That’s why we built support for using multiple abuse prevention products at the same time. The platform calculates scores for each type of abuse looking at different patterns and signals that are unique to each abuse type. We’ll show you scores for each type and a list of signals that contributed to that specific score.
Then, when you identify someone abusing your system, you can take action against them for that specific abuse type. By telling us which specific abuse type a user is bad for, the system can learn to identify specific patterns for that type of abuse and improve your predictions going forward.
